The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) gives you the opportunity to receive college credit for what you already know by earning qualifying scores on any of the many examinations. Earn credit for knowledge you’ve acquired through independent study, prior course work, on-the-job training, professional development, or internships.
The University of Central Florida does not award credit for all of the CLEP exams that are provided by the University Testing Center. Test credit is applied according to the published policy at the time the credit is received and posted by the university. For updated information regarding course equivalencies and all other important CLEP policies, please visit the UCF Undergraduate Catalog section on Accelerated Educational Opportunities. Scroll down to the CLEP policies, located after AP and IB credit.
Please Note: UTC administers the CLEP College Composition Modular exam. Students seeking English Composition credit should verify course equivalencies with their college or university before registering.
For UCF students: Students seeking credit for ENC 1101 and ENC 1102 should register for the CLEP College Composition exam rather than the College Composition Modular exam. Under Florida’s statewide Credit-by-Exam guidelines, the College Composition Modular exam does not provide guaranteed credit for ENC 1101 and ENC 1102. Questions about UCF course equivalencies should be directed to the UCF Registrar’s Office or your academic success coach.
Modern States provides FREE online courses to prepare you for the CLEP exam. Test takers who successfully complete the training program may request a voucher to take their CLEP test for FREE.

Test takers planning to complete the Calculus, Chemistry, College Algebra, College Mathematics, or Precalculus exam titles may familiarize themselves with the online calculators by navigating to the CollegeBoard practice site. Note: test takers are not allowed to bring and use their own calculator for the CLEP exam. If a calculator is needed it will be integrated into the exam software.
The office of Student Accessibility Services (SAS) works in collaboration with the University Testing Center (UTC) to ensure that reasonable accommodations are made for test takers with documented disabilities. Test takers with disabilities seeking alternative testing arrangements (e.g. extended time, etc.) must request approval from SAS (407-823-2371 or sas@ucf.edu). Note: test takers should allow at least two (2) weeks for SAS and UTC to process the accommodation requests once the formal request has been submitted to SAS.
You can find more details and the request form at: UCF Placement Tests and University Testing Center
Once UTC receives notification from the SAS office of a test-taker’s testing accommodations, a UTC staff member will create a registration account for the student and email them instructions to register. Test takers should NOT REGISTER for a testing appointment until they receive these instructions from UTC.
Non-UCF test-takers with questions about pre-approved accommodations through CollegeBoard should email utc@ucf.edu to learn more about how to register for a CLEP appointment with accommodations.
There are two separate registrations and payments required per test:
* See Modern States program information above under “Preparation” to get information on qualifying to test for free.
Purchase your CLEP exam ticket through the MyAccount registration portal: clepportal.collegeboard.org.

Review the University Testing Center’s policies prior to test day. Items such as outerwear (hoodies, sweaters, jackets, pullovers, cardigans, any form of layered clothing), watches, and electronic devices are not permitted into the test room. UTC does offer lockers at no additional cost.
All appointments must be booked a minimum of 24 hours prior to the desired date/time. To schedule an appointment, navigate to RegisterBlast.
After completing the registration process, check your email for the test registration confirmation. If you do not receive a confirmation email, you must contact UTC during normal business hours to check your appointment status.
Appointments may be rescheduled up to 72 hours prior to your scheduled date/time at no cost by following the instructions below. Missed appointments will require full repayment of the test cost; this includes if you cancel or arrive more than 15-minutes late.
A CLEP may not be retaken within a 3-month period. This waiting period provides the test taker with an opportunity to spend additional time preparing for the exam or the option of taking a classroom course.
For most* CLEP exams, you will receive an unofficial score report immediately upon completing your exam.
*College Composition: Because this exam includes mandatory essays that are scored by College Board, scores are not available immediately. Students are typically notified by email when their scores are available online approximately 2–3 weeks after testing.
If you designate UCF as the recipient of your official CLEP transcript, it may take approximately 4–6 weeks from the date of testing for the UCF Registrar’s Office to receive and process your scores. Please contact the UCF Registrar’s Office directly at registrar@ucf.edu if you need to verify receipt of an official CLEP transcript.
More information about CLEP score reports is available from the College Board website.
